Digi-Key is “On the Grow”

Digi-Key expansion in Thief River Falls MN

The construction of the new Digi-Key Electronics product distribution center is rapidly changing the appearance of the southwest side of Thief River Falls.

The latest progress is easily visible from outside city limits from both the south and the west. Steel is being erected and prefabricated concrete walls are going up. The shape of the building is beginning to take form. Trucks hauling the steel and concrete are coming and going to the site through the course of each day.

As is common with any construction project in northwestern Minnesota, the goal is to have as much of the building exterior completed as possible before mother nature steps in and the temperatures begin to fall and snow starts to appear. There are presently 150+ construction workers on site, including many local contractors that are busy constructing the new 2,200,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility.

Digi-Key and Textron are having conversations with the City of Thief River Falls regarding the availability and timing of many infrastructure improvements (including road and trails) on the southwest side of Thief River Falls in a collaborative effort to maximize pedestrian safety and traffic flow.

Digi-Key’s planning team continues to focus on concluding the building design and is looking forward to 2019 when the focus will shift to installation of the material handling equipment.  This expansion project provides Digi-Key with additional capacity to continue to grow and it will also provide a tremendous economic development boost to Northwest Minnesota, providing hundreds of new jobs and hundreds of millions of dollars in new economic output.
