Free nonprofit training event in Thief River Falls, hosted by Minnesota Council of Nonprofits on September 10.
Nonprofit leaders, board members and volunteers from across the Thief River Falls area are invited to connect, learn and share ideas at Thief River Falls Nonprofit Connect, a free event hosted by the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits (MCN).
The event will be held Thursday, September 10, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Heritage Community Center, 301 4th Street East in Thief River Falls. There is no cost to attend. (Minnesota Council of Nonprofits)
The evening is designed for people who help lead, govern or support nonprofit organizations—whether they serve as staff members, board members or volunteers. Along with a meal, refreshments and time for conversation and networking, participants will hear from MCN about two issues that are especially important to nonprofit organizations today. Strengthening Nonprofit Boards
One portion of the evening will focus on Board Roles and Fiduciary Duties 101. The session will provide a practical overview of what nonprofit board members are responsible for as volunteer leaders, including their fiduciary duties and a clearer understanding of what board members should—and should not—be doing. This discussion can be valuable not only for new board members, but also for experienced board members and nonprofit staff who want to strengthen board governance and create clearer expectations between boards and organizational leadership.
Understanding the State of Minnesota’s Nonprofit Sector
MCN will also present its State of the Nonprofit Sector, drawing on the organization’s research and information about the changing environment facing Minnesota nonprofits.
The presentation will explore current challenges facing the sector while highlighting opportunities for nonprofits to build resiliency and respond through collaboration, advocacy and innovation. (Minnesota Council of Nonprofits)
