Empowering Small Businesses

The Journey of Kayla Schlueter and Agile Accounting

On November 5, 2024, Kayla Schlueter, founder of Agile Accounting, shared the story of her entrepreneurial journey at TREK, radiating a passion for small business accounting and consulting. Kayla’s mission is to demystify financial management for small businesses, enabling them to thrive in a complex landscape.

Path to Entrepreneurship

Kayla’s path to entrepreneurship began well before her time at Agile Accounting. After earning her stripes in transition accounting and working with various businesses as a CPA, she ventured into software consulting with a Texas-based company. It was there that she discovered the power of communication in accounting.

A Pivotal Moment

Reflecting on her experiences, Kayla recounted a pivotal moment involving a trucking company client named Ray. Despite his education and experience, Ray struggled to grasp the financial processes that were critical to his business. In just one hour of conversation, Kayla was able to bridge the gap between complex accounting concepts and Ray’s understanding, a moment that solidified her belief in the importance of clear communication in the accounting profession.

Not Without Challenges

However, Kayla’s journey hasn’t been without its challenges. She openly shared her experiences with PTSD and the need for mental health awareness in high-pressure environments. After recognizing that a traditional 40-hour workweek was detrimental to her well-being, she decided to pivot her focus towards creating a more flexible and supportive working environment—one that could empower her clients as well.

Importance of Understanding Financial Statements

At Agile Accounting, Kayla emphasizes the importance of understanding financial statements, especially for small business owners who may not have a background in accounting. “Many business owners are brilliant at what they do, but lack the tools to comprehend their financials,” she explained. With this in mind, she offers tailored training and consulting services, helping clients navigate software tools like QuickBooks and grasp essential financial concepts such as cash flow and profit margins.

Building Relationships

Kayla’s approach is not just about numbers; it’s about building relationships. She takes the time to ensure her clients feel comfortable and informed throughout the process, often providing follow-up consultations to address any lingering questions. “I want to make them feel good in the process of making those decisions,” she said, a testament to her commitment to client success.

Future Growth

As she continues to grow Agile Accounting, Kayla envisions a future where she can expand her team with like-minded individuals who share her passion for helping others. For her, the goal is not just to manage numbers, but to foster a community where business owners can thrive and feel confident in their financial decisions.

Kayla Schlueter’s journey is a testament to the power of resilience, passion, and the importance of understanding one’s financial landscape. Through Agile Accounting, she is not just changing the way small businesses approach their finances; she is empowering them to take control of their futures—one consultation at a time.
