Finding Freedom Through Fitness

Tate Sorvig’s Vision at TREK

On November 5, 2024, Tate Sorvig, the owner of Great North Fitness, captivated TREK attendees with his inspiring story, focusing on the transformative power of fitness in achieving physical, mental, and spiritual freedom. Since 2015, Sorvig has dedicated himself to creating an environment where individuals can escape the traps of chronic disease and find strength in community and personal growth. His new location at Fricke Plaza has given his business the space it needs to better serve client needs.

An Urgent Mission

With a staggering national statistic of $4.8 trillion spent on preventable diseases, Sorvig underscored the urgency of his mission. He shared a heartfelt story about his grandfather, who battled Alzheimer’s disease—a man he admired for his brilliance and resilience. Watching his grandfather’s decline profoundly impacted Sorvig, inspiring him to ensure that future generations, including his own children, do not endure similar struggles. “I don’t want to watch my dad go through that,” he reflected, emphasizing his commitment to fostering a healthier community.

At Great North Fitness, Sorvig has built a space where people of all backgrounds can come together to pursue their health goals. He described the gym’s evolution over the past nine years, highlighting its growth from a small facility to a vibrant community hub. With a focus on functional fitness, Sorvig aims to empower individuals to engage in all kinds of outdoor activities, fostering a sense of adventure and exploration beyond the gym walls.

Accessible and Inclusive Fitness

Central to Sorvig’s philosophy is the idea that fitness should be accessible and inclusive. He acknowledged that many perceive fitness as intimidating but stressed that everyone, regardless of their starting point, can find a path to improvement. “We can change it up for anybody,” he said, promoting an environment where individuals feel safe to fail without judgment, allowing them to grow and learn.

The culture at Great North Fitness is built on strong relationships, emphasizing the importance of personal connections in the fitness journey. Sorvig shared his belief that serving and caring for people is essential for success in business. “If you get that wrong, a lot falls apart,” he cautioned, reflecting on the intricacies of managing a fitness facility while remaining true to its mission.

New Training Programs

Looking ahead, Sorvig is excited about the future, noting the expansion of his coaching team and the introduction of new training programs. His vision includes not only enhancing fitness offerings but also maintaining a culture of support and encouragement. With 100 participants in their adult classes and a rapidly growing community, the gym is thriving under Sorvig’s leadership.

In conclusion, Tate Sorvig’s presentation at TREK was not just about fitness; it was about freedom. Freedom from disease, from doubt, and from the limitations that often hold people back. By fostering a supportive community and prioritizing relationships, Sorvig is not only transforming lives through fitness but also paving the way for a healthier, more empowered future for all. As attendees left TREK, they carried with them not just insights into physical health, but a renewed sense of hope and purpose in their wellness journeys.
