Community Members 50+ Invited to Share Insights on Housing Needs in Thief River Falls
Residents aged 50 and older in Thief River Falls are invited to participate in a series of discussions, focus groups, and one-on-one interviews to share their perspectives on housing needs and preferences. This initiative seeks to address the growing demand for housing that supports the health, longevity, and quality of life for older adults.
Thief River Falls is a vibrant community with a thriving population of older adults. U.S. Census data highlights a remarkable 53.7% growth in the city’s 65-to-74 age group between 2010 and 2023, a trend expected to continue in the coming years. As more residents transition into their retirement years, the demand for accessible, low-maintenance housing has never been more critical.
“With the 55+ population expanding, understanding and meeting their unique housing needs is essential for sustaining our community’s vitality,” said Michelle Landsverk, Director of Advance Thief River. “This is a chance for residents to shape the future of housing in Thief River Falls and ensure it reflects their priorities.”
Housing plays a crucial role in helping older adults maintain their independence, connect with their community, and enjoy a high quality of life. The input gathered through these discussions will guide efforts to create homes designed to support aging in place and meet the needs of this growing demographic.
